Correspondence, 1964-1968, containing personal correspondence; reference files including summaries of cases, speeches, periodicals, notes, and published materials; military records containing published materials and a research paper. The bulk of the collection consists of reference files, containing mostly case file summaries. The reference files also include published materials, such as periodical articles and published case files. Correspondence consists of letters to Maddox from preachers praising him for his active Christian support. These correspondents include Bob Harrington, the so-called "Chaplain of Bourbon Street" and E.F. Hallock, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Norman, Oklahoma. Other correspondents include Maddox's friends who congratulated him on his appointment as legal advisor to Governor Wallace. The military records contain a research paper produced by Maddox on the Alabama Hospital Lien law, and also published materials that include journals from Maxwell Air Force base and the Air Force in general.

Frank Minis Johnson, Jr. (1918-1999), federal judge, received a recess appointment from President Dwight D. Eisenhower on October 22, 1955 to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. He was nominated on January 12, 1956; confirmed by the Senate on January 31, 1956; and received his commission on February 1, 1956. He served as chief judge, 1966 to 1979.
